How do we select our programs?

Our programs are selected under several criteria. Why travel with cause?

CHOOSING A PROGRAM

Can I participate in several programs?

Of course! We have programs around the world, and different causes that need your support, your ideas and your desire to change. We are sure that once you return from your first trip with Alai International, you will not want to travel without cause.

How far in advance should I register?

We recommend that you do it with 4 months in advance to secure your place and, if required, obtain a payment plan. It is important to sign up with a minimum of 30 days before the start date. However, it is possible to register up to 15 days before the same.

What is the availability?

Depending on the program and the destination that interests you. Most of our programs are available year-round, with two departures each month.

What is the minimum duration?

The minimum duration for our trips with cause is 1 week, as we believe it is the time necessary to be immersed in your program and perform all activities. Apart from being able to know more about the place and the culture that you are going to visit. In some of our programs, the longer you go, the less cost the week has, apart from that there will be a greater opportunity to help, get to know, get involved and connect as much as possible in your program to live a complete, unique and unforgettable experience.

If I am a minor, can I travel?

In most of our programs, you need to be over 18 years of age. However, if you are a minor, you can ask our advisors about programs that accept minors. In some cases, you can attend accompanied by an adult, and / or with a responsive letter from your parents. Get in contact with us!

Do I need to speak English?

Most of our programs do not need you to speak English, except for those in which the focus of the program is to teach English to children or adults: these require a minimum basic/intermediate English. However, the rest of our programs (Asia, South Africa, Europe) require you to have a basic or intermediate level of English depending on the type of program and its activities.

Do I require previous experience or some specific knowledge?

For most of our programs, no previous experience in volunteering is necessary, although if you have it, it will be very useful. We love that our nomads can get involved, propose solutions and be creative. And what better if you know other programs or volunteer work. In terms of knowledge, in some programs we will ask for your resume, not because some knowledge is necessary, but this will allow us to know and adapt as much as possible the activities to be carried out and your involvement in the project of your choice.

What is included?

All our trips include information and advice prior to your trip, ranging from helping you choose the most suitable program for you, to being with you to support you and answer your questions before, during and after your trip. In addition, our trips include accommodation during your program, meals, materials required to carry out the project activities, an orientation and a coordinator who will be present throughout your trip pending to support you at any time. What is the accommodation?

How likely is it that I will be accepted into the program for the dates I requested?

Everything depends on the anticipation with which you request dates. Although our operational capacity is very broad, and most likely the dates you want are available.

What Alai International receives from the volunteers is the amount collected for the organization that operates and takes over the projects in which they participate, and also includes a registration fee for Alai International. This rate is the only way of entry for Alai International and thanks to it we can dedicate ourselves to provide an excellent service to our travelers, before, during and after their trip, as well as cover our operating costs, marketing, and taxes.

What other expenses will I have to cover?

What is the deadline to pay?

First you need to pay the registration fee to ensure your placement. You must pay off your program at least one month before its start. If your program starts less than a month in advance, payment is required immediately and in full.

Do you have payment plans?

Yes, you are entitled to a maximum of three deferred payments in 3 months + your initial advance payment. For more information, please contact your advisor.

PLANNING YOUR TRIP

When should I arrive at the destination?

In general, we recommend that you arrive one day in advance of the program so that you can easily adapt to the destination. However, you can arrive at the start date of your program without any problem.

In both cases, you must notify your advisor in advance in order to schedule your pick-up from the host airport.

What to pack?

We recommend you always carry the following:

The details of the program come in the welcome kit that your advisor sends you once you have completed your registration and first payment. When you enter any of our programs on the website you can see some details of each program.

What is the itinerary?

Who will be the contact person?

Your main contact during the program is on the program site, usually welcoming you and guiding you. On some occasions, it is also the person who receives you at the airport upon arrival (applies only to programs that include airport pick-up).

In most of the occasions, you are doing the activities with more than another person. On average, there should be between 5 and 10 people in the projects.

Are there more volunteers?

Yes, however, the number of simultaneous travelers varies by season. Chances are you’re going to share the experience with more than one person.

Is there a training/orientation prior to the activities?

In all our programs there is training and / or guidance before starting volunteering

What is the work schedule?

The work schedule depends on each of our programs. Usually there are days of 4 to 6 working hours

Will I have free time?

In all our programs you have free time. Usually, during the week, it is after volunteering. The weekends are totally free.

Is there an internet access?

It depends on the program, most of the accommodations have Internet access. In others, the sites are very remote and the Internet can have limited signal.

Are there ATMs at the program headquarters or surroundings?

It is advisable to always carry cash since some of our programs are in remote and rural areas. However, you will always have the support of a guide.

DURING THE PROGRAM

Our volunteers are always accompanied and supervised by a coordinator in each of our destinations.

What happens if participants get sick during the trip?

In the program, volunteers will always have the medical support of the organization. If the illness is more serious, the return of the volunteer will be requested.

What happens if there is an emergency?

We have emergency protocols in all of our destinations, and although we have never had any bad experiences with any of our volunteers, we are ready to react quickly to any eventuality. Do you organize trips for families?
